Overview

Activated 22 July 1942 at New River, North Carolina as Company C, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines.

Assigned during February 1943 to the 4th Marine Division.

Relocated during July 1943 to Camp Pendleton, California.

Deployed during February 1944 to Kwajalein Atoll.

Participated in the following World War II campaigns:

  • Roi-Namur
  • Saipan
  • Tinian
  • Iwo Jima

Redeployed during April 1945 to Maui, Territory of Hawaii.

Relocated during October 1945 to Camp Pendleton, California.

Deactivated 15 November 1945.

Reactivated 1 July 1962 at Houston, Texas.

Assigned to the 4th Marine Division, United States Marine Corps Reserve

4th Marine Division Decorations:
