Our WWII Marines: Gregory Carroll

Harold and Carroll Gregory, Camp Pendleton 2005

Gregory MOUNT VERNON - Carroll Ellis Gregory, 86, passed away on Wednesday July 13, 2011 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor. Mr. Gregory was born in Jefferson County, Illinois on June 17, 1925 the son of Arthur & Minnie (Ellis) Gregory. Mr. Gregory married Glenna Allen on July 3, 1954, in Broughton, IL and she preceded him in death on November 26, 2004. Mr. Gregory served his country as a Marine in the 4th Marine Division during WW II. He was a member of the Summersville Baptist Church. He was also a member of the 4th Marine Division Reunion Association. Mr. Gregory is survived by his daughter, Janis Gregory Hale & husband Lawrence of Springfield, IL; granddaughter, Haley Reanna Gregory of LaPlace, IL; step-grandson, Matthew Blickensderfer of Decatur, IL; step-granddaughter, Whitney Blickensderfer of Mt. Zion, IL; twin brother, Harold William Gregory & wife Mary Jo of Mesa, AZ; sister, Pauline Baker of Tyler, TX; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Gregory of Decatur, IL and Betty Gregory of Tempe, AZ; and brothers-in-law, Delbert Allen & wife Barbara of Tuscola, IL; John Allen & wife Betty of Bement, IL; and Carol Wood of Tuscola, IL. Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by his: parents; step-father, Tony Reiling; wife, Glenna; son, Randal Allen Gregory; sister, Virginia Scott; and brothers, Donald Gregory & Arthur Gregory. Funeral Services will be held on Monday July 18, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Don Verhines officiating. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M at the funeral home. For those who wish memorials may be made to the Summersville Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home at anytime. Obituary written by family members.
