On Aug 1, 2015 we posted an announcement about a wooden box. http://www.c123rd.com/announcements/woodenboxfound-informationsought

In an effort to find out which C123rd Marine it had belonged to, a tree at Ancestry.com was started to look for records and clues. It was the only way to try to figure out where they enlisted, find them in census records or phone directories, etc., and other databases that would give us a clue as to where they were from when they enlisted.

Sadly, a year later after all 862 Marines had been entered and researched, we still don’t know which one the box was made by.

We would like to thank the person who now has the box for being the inspiration for research project that led to the tree on Ancestry.com. We believe that it will be a helpful repository for anyone researching, some of whom may not even know that their relative was a Marine in WWII.

If you’re an Ancestry.com member you can find the tree at this link - http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/82309145/recent
